Francis Barker "Val" Valentine was a noted artist, illustrator, commercial designer, and teacher who lived and worked in Buffalo and Hamberg, New York. He studied at the Buffalo School of Fine Arts, Yale School of Fine Arts, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. While in Pennsylvania, he studied with Daniel Garber, whose influence is evident in this painting. In 1926, Valentine exhibited several landscape paintings in a group show at the Hamburg Fair, Hamburg, NY.
