Republican Party Campaign Circular for U. S. Grant
Lot Details & Additional Photographs
"THE PARTY OF FREEDOM AND ITS CANDIDATES. The Duty of the Colored Voter.," Washington, D.C., the Union Republican Congressional Committee, 1868, four pp., octavo (5.5 x 8.5 in.). This rare and important imprint is directed at the millions of former slaves who, for the first time, were being given the opportunity to vote. Using images of Abraham Lincoln as "The Emancipator" and of U. S. Grant as "His Successor," the Republicans stress that they are the party of freedom and equality. The Democrats are categorically denounced as former slave-holders and opponents to racial progress. An altogether fascinating glimpse into Reconstruction politics.

Estate of the late Eugene Grissom Moss and the late Maria Frances Bullock, Granville County, North Carolina.

Lightly toned; folds; on pages 3/4 a one inch area of mostly marginal loss and a pinhole.

$300 - 600
