Two Modern Sculptures by Ken Uyemura
Lot Details & Additional Photographs
The first is a tall four sided sculpture which tapers towards the top with a rectangular cut out in the top center, also the same cut out in the base. A large hole is cut out of the center to play on positive and negative space allowing the viewer to see beyond the object. The sculpture has a matte white glaze over terra cotta. The second, smaller sculpture has a similar structure with the top tapering and is open, also with a central cut-out hole. The sculpture is constructed of an unglazed red stoneware with light hatch marks allover, and is signed "Uyemura '67" on the base. A wonderful example of mid-century sculpture.

From the Estate of the Late Ken Uyemura, artist and professor

The white sculpture has some chipping to one corner of the base.
