Lot Details & Additional Photographs
Published by J. B. Lippincott & Co. of Philadelphia, (25) leaves bound in tooled leather covers, 6 x 5 in., contains (41) civilian and (9) military portraits. Included in the latter are the following: an unidentified Union general; Confederate generals Earl Van Dorn, Felix Zollicoffer and John Hunt Morgan (all published by E. A. Anthony of NY); an unidentified Confederate general (Bingham & Bros., Memphis backmark); an unidentified Confederate officer in a frock coat (B. Bingham's Gallery backmark with Federal revenue stamp); an unidentified Confederate major in a shell jacket (blank back with Federal revenue stamp canceled June 27, 1865); an unidentified Confederate lieutenant in a shell jacket (Y. Day, Memphis backmark with Federal revenue stamp); an unidentified Confederate enlisted man in a shell jacket (blank back with revenue stamp). Included with this album is a postwar photograph album from the same estate containing (40) images, mostly cabinet cards, (5) of which are of cadets or militia men. The portraits are mostly from Virginia or Tennessee studios.

It is likely that the unidentified Confederates here were cavalrymen serving with Nathan Bedford Forrest since even the officers are wearing shell jackets.

The CDVs are generally in average attic condition, displaying bumped corners, stains, and expected toning.
