Late 19th - early 20th century, depicts the Virgin standing amid the poor with stylized coins scattered throughout the composition; the oil on panel painting is behind a silvered metal oklad, the whole is presented in a modern shadowbox wooden frame. This scarce scene refers to the miraculous 1888 survival of an icon in a St. Petersburg church that had been struck by lightning. During the event coins from the alms box flew through the air becoming affixed to the original icon.
