The first worked in colorful silk thread on linen in red, blue, and green featuring three rows of family members' initials surmounting a tree flanked by open feathered peacocks and crowns, bottom register marked "Leah Smith the year 1808," unusual to the sampler are additional initials with vertical placement, with wide carnation band border; SS 16 x 11.5 in.. DOA 18.25 x 14 in.; the second on natural linen stitched in red, green and pink, with with six rows of alphabet over pious verse, which is flanked by four vertical rows of initials within a framework, bottom register with flower filled basket and birds surmounting medallion with maker's name, "Jessie Anderson / finished Septemb / 1837," minor staining and thread loss, SS 16.5 x 13.5 in., DOA 18 x 16.25 in.
