Elizabeth Philpot's sampler, on very fine linen worked in silk threads, with pious verse, and shepherd and shepherdess minding their flock of sheep, with harlequin figures, undulating floral border with saw tooth outer border. Research indicates that the maker is probably Elizabeth Philpot (b,. 1783) of Fordingbridge, Hamshire, England, daughter of James Philpot (1742-1823) and Ann Mills (b. about 1747).
