Very finely executed portrait miniature, possibly on ivory, of Robert Brooke (1770-1821), born in Montgomery, Pennsylvania; he married Charlotte Porter (1778-1846), daughter of famed Revolutionary War General Andrew Porter, who was also Mary Todd LincolnÕs maternal great-grandfather; sitter may have familial ties to William Bicker Walter and is listed in ÒThe Accounts of Surveys, 1805-1806Ó held in the Winterthur Library; miniature is housed in folding leather frame lined in velvet and under concave glass. Thomas Seir Cummings was a pupil and partner with Henry Inman until 1827. He later studied at the American Academy and went on to form with others the New York Drawing Association, which became the National Academy of Design in 1826.

Has not been examined out of frame.
