Union 64th Illinois Civil War Diary and Ephemera
Lot Details & Additional Photographs
Articles pertaining to Corporal James Andrew Fiddick,, "D" Co., 64th Illinois Infantry, "Yates's Sharp-Shooters." Central to this grouping is Fiddick's 1865 pocket diary containing daily entries from January 1 through July 11. The author, having enlisted on December 1, 1861, was a seasoned veteran of a hard-fighting regiment that sustained heavy casualties throughout the Western Theater. This diary covers the war's closing months with particular emphasis on the Battle of Bentonville, NC and the surrender of Joseph Johnston's army. The diary has been neatly removed from a complete book, stopping abruptly with Fiddick's mustering out in Louisville on July 11, 1865. Light aging as expected, minimal fading and quite legible. Accompanying the diary are (3) postwar photographs of Fiddick, an 1864 letter from a friend, his clipped 1918 obituary, a modern snapshot of his Kansas grave, a typed 20th century genealogy of Fiddick's immediate family, a Daughters of Union Veterans medal and a Coast Artillery Corps badge of Spanish-American War vintage.
