Early Inuit or Northwestern Indian Wood Carvings
Lot Details & Additional Photographs
19th century, (3) one-piece naive renderings variously depicting a bear hunting salmon, a boat pursuing a whale and what appears to be a string of islands or mountains. The carvings, 11 - 14 in., are housed in a wooden box, 3.75 x 16.5 x 4 in., with a sliding oblong drawer and carved spiraled rosette decorations on top.

Ancient chips to the whale's tail and possibly missing inlaid eyes. All items, including the box, have excellent original surfaces that indicate great antiquity.

An old collection number is neatly penned on the underside of the box's drawer. Private deceased estate collection, Chapel Hill, NC.
