Colonial Book With Possible Washington Association
Lot Details & Additional Photographs
Newman, Thomas, "The Progress of Vice: Being the Substance of Some Sermons...", (London: J. Waugh 1755), 158 pp., 16mo (6 x 4 in.), full calf covers. "Washington" is penned on the title page and "Jasper Mauduit" is written over the preface. Mauduit, a merchant, knew George Washington and represented the interests of Massachusetts Bay in Parliament, 1762 - 1765. The Washington signature appears to be in Mauduit's hand and the reasons for its presence can only be conjectural.

Splits to several leaves; loss to spine; front cover nearly separated from binding. Fair condition.
