Oil on canvas, unsigned (documentation shows that the painting was originally signed "W. Frerichs," but that the signature was lost when the painting was cleaned in the 1970s), housed in the original gilt wood frame with applied composition ornament.

Family history claims that this painting was given by Frerichs to his friend Alphonso Pettis. It eventually hung in the house of Alphonso Byron Roberts, great grand nephew of Alphonso Pettis, in East Hampton, MA. The painting remained hanging in the library before being gifted back to the Roberts' family and thence by descent to the present owners.
