Lot Details & Additional Photographs
Oil on artist's board, signed on the verso "John Scott - Painter / Boston" and "Painted by John Scott," housed in a period appropriate gilt wood frame with composition ornament. Likely a White Mountain landscape with the typical Hudson River School stylistic device of two small figures in a grand romantic landscape. Scott spent his entire life in the Boston area, being a member of the Boston Art Club. By the 1840s, he was working with the great Luminist Fitz Henry Lane, whose influence may be illustrated in this picture.
