Oil on canvas, signed at lower right "Carl Lawless," inscribed on the verso and retaining a paper label "#12," framed under glass, accompanied by the original pamphlet from an exhibition of oil paintings by Carl Lawless and Arthur Meltzer at the Fort Wayne Art School & Museum on Jan. 15th to Feb. 15th, 1925. Carl Lawless studied at the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts prior to World War I. He received a scholarship allowing him to travel to Europe, and upon his return he settled first in Pennsylvania before finally finishing his days in Mystic, Connecticut. While in Mystic, he helped found the Mystic Art Association and was very active in the local arts community.
