A large tapered form with flared gilt edged rim, delicately hand-painted with central depictions of birds on branches surrounded by butterflies. This pattern was first created in the mid-nineteenth century to portray the story of the Baroness Rothschild's loss of her pearl necklace, later found in a tree; a toy for the birds. Herend stamp to the bottom.
