Manuel Carbonell (Cuban, b. 1918), Dancer

Polished bronze on marble base, inscribed on the foot. Manuel Carbonell trained at the Academia de Bellas Artes de San Alejandro in Havana. In 1959 he was exiled from Cuba and moved to New York City, where he reveled in capturing the fluidity of the human form. This stylized figure is from his "Dancers" series from the late 1970s and early 1980s.
