English, ca. 1820, watercolor on paper depicting a young boy in a pastoral setting with his hoop and stick; details are finely rendered. Sitter identified en verso as "Edward Lord Hatherton," possibly nephew of Sir Edward Littleton who built Teddesley Hall and the Teddesley Canal System in Staffordshire, England. The sitter became Lord Hatherton in 1835. Housed under glass in an early, probably original, bird's eye maple frame with a gilt liner.
