Ca. 1880, the subject wears full dress uniform with chapeau and white gloves, cavalry badges on his breast flank a GAR medal with single star on hanger. The officer's left sleeve is wrapped in a mourning band. As such, it is conceivable that the image is associated with the funeral of a colleague or perhaps even that of President Garfield. Matted in gilt and gesso period frame.
