Second half 20th century, incorporating elements of the first and third National flags: a "3" within a circle of stars dominates the red canton while a vertical red stripe is along the flag's fly. The field carries stenciled battle honors to include "NEW BERN," "ANDERSON FT.," "NOR. E. RIVER," and "BENTONVILLE," the Confederacy's motto DEO VINDICE and crossed cannon designating the 1st NC Artillery. Presented behind glass in a heavily molded gilt and wooden frame with a gallery plaque stating erroneously that this is, in fact, a Third National Flag.
