Signed "Fredk O. Whitfield," 2pp., octavo, aboard the "U. S. S. 'Commodore Perry,' off Newbern, NC," August 31, 1863, to his wife in Philadelphia, the author being homeward bound with a case of "fever and chills." Included is its original postal cover carrying a Norfolk. Virginia cds. Professionally matted in a wooden frame, the second page is represented by a photocopy so the display can show the entire letter from one side of the frame.
