Signed "G W Kenney, Capt Co G 17 Rg MV," one page, octavo, Camp Andrew, Baltimore, Maryland, December 9, 1861, reading, "This is to certify that Geo. A Wilson of Danvers Mass County of Essex is a member of Co. G 17th Ret of Mass Vols and is regularly mustered into the service of the United States." Matted in a contemporary frame having a fabric liner. Wilson, an amateur artist, would serve until October 7, 1864. He illustrated many of his war-date letters with drawings of the people, places and events he witnessed.
