Late 19th century, paper mache and lacquer case, the lid hand-painted with scene of a moonlit lake as seen from a balcony, some shell inlay to the costume of one damsel. The box itself is covered with intricate swirls of gilt, and the fitted interior retains many of its original glass containers and features a removable tray. The silver lids are neither marked nor do they test positive for sterling.
