Ernest Charles Wallcousins was a renowned and successful illustrator, portraitist, and poster designer. This painting is an excellent example of his mastery of color, in the manner of Maxfield Parrish and other early 20th century illustrators. The treatment of this work is similar to Wallcousin's painting "Nebuchadnezzar in the Hanging Gardens of Baylon," completed in 1915. Wallcousins produced many North American scenes as well, including "Indians Hunting Bison."
