Circa 1860s, incised with the name "David Walker" in cobalt between two cobalt bands. Likely produced during the war to commemorate the freeborn black, David Walker, who wrote an incendiary abolitionist pamphlet. Born 1785 in the Wilmington area, he later moved to Boston, died 1830, but remained well known for his anti-slavery sentiments.
