This painting is one of Christensen's "Stain" paintings which meld theories of color field painting with post-painterly abstraction. The gestural markings and tactile surfaces of the acrylic paint express the joy Christensen found in the process.

The influential art critic Clement Greenberg famously proclaimed in 1991, "Dan Christensen is one of the painters on whom the course of American art depends." His work has been featured in fifteen solo exhibitions since his death and his paintings hang in numerous public collections including the Museum of Modern Art, the Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco and the Whitney Museum of American Art.

Some minor rubbing to frame - else fine.
