Washington, D.C., June 10, 1863, to Major General Nathaniel Banks, Port Hudson, Louisiana, three pages on letterhead with docketing, quarto, reading, in part: "...steamer which leaves here to day for your department via N. Y. with forty more ambulances...This steamer...of 1000 tons speed 10 miles will be transferred to the order & used in a regular line between N. Y & N. O...watching your cause (and) welcoming your success with joy & gratitude. If you continue to be as successful you will be a most fortunate and prosperous man. If you meet with all success I believe that what you have already accomplished will stand to unify the people..."
