Dug Tongue Portion of Ultra Rare Confederate Two-Piece North Carolina Belt Plate

Cast brass with file marks especially evident on the "NC" and underside edges of the disc, overall 44.5 x 58mm, the disc being 30mm diameter, similar to Plate 336 in Confederate Belt Buckles & Plates by Steve E. Mullinax, 2nd Edition, 1999; the plate accompanied by a penciled note reading, "Dug At / Dug near Wilderness / Aug 1969 / Danny Wemer." A few other excavated camp relics from the Wemer Estate are included as follows: a North Carolina sunburst one-piece button with traces of gilt, its back with a solder mark where the shank once was; (17) civilian flat buttons; two pieces of a harmonica reed.
