No Grand Tour was complete without a visit to the Campagna, which was the most painted landscape in Europe during the 18th and 19th centuries. This painting owes much to the influence of Claude Lorraine in the dramatic use of bright light in the background and "lyrical" shadows in the foreground.

Fair condition - canvas detached in areas from the stretchers; scattered paint flaking and losses; craquelure; yellowing to varnish; frame stripped of elements and paint.

$500 - 1,000
