First quarter of the 19th century, both watercolor on ivory, the first a half length portrait of a woman identified on early paper backing as "Eleanor Sulley / daughter of George Culley / wife of James Darling," presented in painted black and églomisé frame (SS 3 x 2.25 in.: DOA 5.5 x 5 in.); the second a quarter length portrait of a gentleman identified on paper backing to frame as Geo Culley, ink inscription reading "Taken Winter / 1802 3 / Geo Culley / aged 68," housed in painted black frame (SS 2.75 x 2.25; DOA 5.5 x 4.5 in.).

Research shows Eleanor Culley born to George and Jane Culley and baptized June 3, 1779 in Wooler, Northumberland, England and her marriage to James Darling June 9, 1803 in Ford, Northumberland England. The couple had two children named for Eleanor's parents, George and Jane Darling. Additional research shows her father's marriage to Jane Atkinson on April 29, 1777 in Chatton, Northumberland, England. He is further mentioned in the Dictionary of National Biographies, Vol. 5 page 282 as being an agriculturist "devoting his life to agriculture and and especially to the improvement of the breed of cattle."

Both examined out of frame; portrait of Eleanor Culley adheres to glass; laid down. Both with some abrading to surface.
