Late 1930s-early 1940s, standard military issue, the tang signed and with a Showa mark below, brass mounts with varying traces of lacquer and gilt; the wrapped ray skin grip with applied brass chrysanthemum menuki; the heavy brass tsuba with conforming blossom motifs on both sides; the textured metal saya with the single suspension ring characteristic of this model. Presented with period Japanese currency in a custom wooden display box having a hinged glass lid.
