Circa 1900, pine, with applied shaped cutout to top, iron latches and escutcheon, handwritten label to interior reads "This box was made by Nelson's grandfather - Randolph Nickerson Smith, who built the rosewood cabinets to house the gems at the Museum of Natural History, Central Park, New York, N.Y."
