Cameron Plantation, NC Carved Walking Stick
Lot Details & Additional Photographs
Antebellum period, carved Southern soft wood having geometric tribal relief carvings, tapered form, together with a framed watercolor by Charles (illegible) of the tobacco barn where this cane was discovered in Bahama, NC, presented in a white washed yellow pine frame from boards of the barn.

Cane 34.5 in.; watercolor DOA 29 x 35.5 in.

By descent through the Stroud & Jordan families, NC.

This is the first time this cane is being offered for sale; coming from direct family descent. Purportedly this cane was discovered in the walls of a tobacco barn on the Cameron Plantation (1776-1973), which owned 1900 slaves, many of which became sharecroppers and their descendants are seen in a copy of a photo featuring the consignor as a young girl standing in front of the barn where this cane was discovered.

Surface wear to cane, and shrinkage cracks.
