Grape Madonna were part of the religious art and the culture of wine. They were found mainly in the German-speaking world, in wine-growing regions of Austria and Tirol on Süddeutsche up in Rhenish wine country. The grape symbolized the blood of Christ shed on the cross that Mary passes on to mankind.
