Serial number 42986 (late 1860s), 5 in. octagonal .32 caliber barrel with SMITH & WESSON. SPRINGFIELD MASS on top flat; six-shot cylinder bearing 1855, 1859, and 1860 patent dates; walnut grip.

The late Norm Flayderman remarks in his Guide that Deadwood marshal "Wild Bill" Hickock was carrying one of these revolvers when gunned down at cards in 1872.
