Oil on canvas (lined), signed and dated 1875 at lower left, presented in a period gilt composition frame.

SS 23 3/8 x 35 3/8 in.; DOA 36 x 47.5 in.

Frederick Batcheller began his art career as a marble cutter in Providence, Rhode Island for the well-known firm of Tingley Brothers. By 1855 he had devoted himself to painting and was one of the founders of the Providence Art Club.

Some rubbing and scattered chipping to frame; yellowing to varnish.
