Bishop - plaster with bronze tone patination, inscribed with artist's initials, mounted to a wooden plinth (HOA 20.75 in.) (minor flaking to edge of bust, small hole to cheek); Roman - ceramic, no apparent signature (6.5 in.) (minor scratching).

Originally from North Carolina, Mangum received his bachelor's and master's degrees from the the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He furthered his studies at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, D.C., the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Art Students League of New York. He returned to North Carolina in the 1960s, where he taught art at Salem College from 1962 to 1987.
