Born in Berlin, Goldberg studied at the Königliche Akademie in Munich, and in Paris at the École des Beaux-Arts and the Académie Julian. He sought refuge in Shanghai during WWII and emigrated to California in 1947, maintaining a studio and teaching profession in San Francisco.
