Descent of the Sauter, Loree and Van Houten families of Somerset County, New Jersey and Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

This is a portrait of Mr. Nelson Howell, born in Madison, NJ in 1800 and dying in Morrisania, NY in 1882. He was a Mason with the Astoria Lodge.

Craquelure; scattered touch-ups; stretcher bar marks; some lifting to paint along lower edge of canvas.
