Originally from Sumter, SC, Robert Courtright studied at St. John's College in Annapolis, MD and the New School for Social Research in New York, NY. He continued his studies in New York at the Art Students League before traveling to Rome in 1953 where his interest in historic architecture and the built environment coalesced into his collage work.
