Originally from Sumter, SC, Robert Courtright studied at St. John's College in Annapolis, MD and the New School for Social Research in New York, NY. He continued his studies in New York at the Art Students League before traveling to Rome in 1953 where his interest in historic architecture and the built environment coalesced into his collage work. His work has been exhibited internationally and is represented in the collections of the Courtright’s work has been exhibited internationally and is represented in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, NY; Carnegie Institute, Pittsburg, PA; Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art, Ridgefield, CT; Phillips Collection, Washington, D.C.; and San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
