Originally from the Netherlands, Berns moved to North Carolina in the mid-1960s to teach at UNC-Greensboro. Berns' exquisitely detailed traditional landscapes are housed in numerous museum collections including the North Carolina Museum of Art, the Weatherspoon Gallery of Art, the Smithsonian, The High Museum, and many others.
This particular painting is a view of Danbury, NC, which is situated in the northwestern portion of the state and is well known for Hanging Rock State Park in the Sauratown Mountain Range.
