The first: James Bogle (NY/SC, 1817-1873), oil on canvas, 1838, the girl seated and depicted in a feigned oval, presented in the original, very fine gilt composition frame with gilt liner, frame retains original label to verso; the second: a daguerreotype also picturing Nonnie Kemp, 1838, housed in original tooled leather case with velvet interior.


Painting DOA 33.5 x 30 in.; Daguerreotype 4 x 3.25 in.

Nonnie was the daughter of Samuel J. Hoggson and Katherine Riggs Hoggson.

Painting: several small areas of retoucing; some minute cracks with associated loss; faint yellowing of varnish. Daguerreotype: case lid detached; numerous tiny reflective marks in the glass; some sputter discoloration spots.
