Ancient Cypriot Limestone Figure and Ten Museum Reproductions
Lot Details & Additional Photographs
This lot from the Cyprus Museum of Jacksonville, NC is accompanied by two documents demonstrating that the collection was acquired legally with the full knowledge of the Cypriot Government.

The first document, a one page official message dated January 1990 and signed by Cypriot President George Vassiliou, praises the North Carolina museum and endorses its cultural and historic mission.

The second document is a notarized affidavit signed by the museum's director. It declares that all of the museum's antiquities were acquired legally with the full knowledge of the Cypriot Government and that there were documented visits to the museum by Cypriot dignitaries.

Ancient Cypriot Limestone Figure and Ten Museum Reproductions, the limestone sculpture, circa 5th-4th century B.C., is of a seated man, likely a scribe, and retains traces of red paint, presented on base (3 in. without base) (expected wear, intact); the reproductions include nine sculptures marked "Cycladic Museum," two figures with makers marks (tallest 12 in.) (break and repair to the neck of the discus thrower, else as made).
