Circa 1770s, one bearing remnants of Benjamin Randolph paper label, shaped crestrail, pierced distinctive backsplat with shaped shoe, upholstered slip seat, molded seat rail, cabriole legs with front ball and claw feet.

38 x 23 x 20 in.

Considered to be one of the finest 18th century cabinetmakers, Benjamin Randolph created American masterpieces in the Queen Anne and Chippendale styles, reputedly responsible for some of the furnishings at Montecello.

Both chairs appear to have been converted to an armchair and converted back to side chairs (original form); both chairs have a cut and patch to the center of each stile and small plug holes to each side rail; one chair with crack and repair to the left side rail.
