Reading, "Frederick Douglass / Washington / D.C." (1.5 x 2.75 in.) and "Very truly yours / Fredk Douglass / 1885" (2.75 x 4.25 in.). Central to the display is a custom plaque engraved "FREDERICK DOUGLASS / 1817-1895 / ABOLTIONIST. JOURNALIST. / PUBLIC OFFICIAL"; above these are modern facsimiles of a famous early Douglass portrait and a sheet music cover for "The Fugitive's Song" on which Douglass is shown as a runaway slave. These objects are behind a green mat within a carved and gilt frame.
