Oil on canvas (lined), signed at lower right, a self-portrait of the artist seated at her dressing table, presented in a very fine carved and gold leaf frame by Edward Wright of Hillsborough, NC.

A noted portrait artist, Agnes Richmond began her art studies at the Saint Louis School of Fine Arts. She moved to New York City in 1888 and enrolled at the Art Students League where she studied under John Twachtman, Walter Appleton Clark, and Kenyon Cox. She later taught at the League from 1910 until 1914.

A member of the National Association of Women Artists, Richmond exhibited extensively throughout her lifetime including works at the National Academy of Design, Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, the Corcoran Gallery of Art, and more.
