These bookends are modeled after a large fountain designed by Frederick Cleveland Hibbard, a noted Chicago sculptor. The bookends were a gift to the female guests at the hotel's grand opening, while an ashtray of a young boy with dolphin were given to the male guests. The Steven's Hotel was the largest hotel in the world when it opened in 1927.
