Bronze with warm brown patina, signed and dated "Kelly / 78" on the base, further inscribed "Sheridans Ride / Oct 19/64" and "From sittings details / furnished by Gen. Sheridan. / 1878.," marked "Winchester 20 M" beneath the horse, with foundry mark reading "Cast by the Henry-Bonnard Bronze Co. / N.Y. 1892."

An exceptionally fine lifetime sand casting of Kelly's famous statuette depicting Union General Sheridan storming into the Shenandoah Valley in 1864. In addition to working with Kelly, The Henry-Bonnard Bronze Co. also made castings for such prominent sculptors as Augustus St. Gaudens and Frederic Remington.

Missing sword and reins; scattered verdigris to surface.
