Oil on panel, unsigned, early 20th century, presented in an antique ebonized and gilt Dutch style ripple frame, the verso of the panel bears a stenciled "8" and is affixed with a sheet from The Musical Times dated February 1, 1928 and featuring a biographical entry on the famous composer.

SS 17 5/8 x 14 5/8 in.; DOA 24.5 x 21 1/8 in.

This is a copy of the well known portrait of John Bull in the collection of the Library of the Faculty of Music at Oxford University. It is believed that the portrait was painted circa 1592 to commemorate Bull's graduation Doctor of Music from Cambridge University.

Yellowing and craquelure to varnish; minor nicking and cracking to frame.
