Two interpretations by Hussey of early 19th century dirt dishes original to Solomon Loy, earthenware with underglaze orange and polychrome trailed slip decoration, signed "BH / 60".

Larger plate 10.75 in.

Solomon Loy, 1805-1865 (?), Southern Alamance County, trained as an earthenware potter, is also considered a master potter of salt glazed utilitarian vessels using the trailing slip technique on both.
