A treasured member of southern folk artists from the mid 20th century, Walker began carving as a boy in Boydton, VA and started exhibiting his bird sculptures in grade school. Each sculpture takes about one week to complete. The carvings were done in either cedar or poplar and he also made snakes from roots. While keeping up with high demands for his bird carvings, he thought "I don't think I get enough for them. It takes a lot of patience to carve a bird."

Good estate condition.
